10 Things Every New Student Should Know

  1. Financial Aid & Scholarships. It is strongly recommended that every new student (EXCEPT PSEO students) should fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) because it is the first step to scholarships, grants and loans. (Available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov)

  2. Check out Academic Advising websites for information that can help you be successful in college.
Middletown | Hamilton. The Student Services Coordinator for advising at the Voice of America Learning Center is Tracy Davis. To make an appointment, call 513.895.8868.

  3. Check out the Miami University Bookstores websites to see what texts will be used in your classes. Get your books early to save money by buying used books. Hamilton | Middletown | VOALC.

  4. Check your Miami University email* regularly and be on the lookout for your eBill.  Miami University does not mail a paper bill to your home address.

*To check your email, login to MyMiami and click the"muConnect email (OWA)" link in the top, left corner. Log in again using your UniqueID and password.

  5. Sign-up for the e2Campus Emergency text alert service and receive a text message if a situation arises that poses immediate danger or involves the closing of an entire campus, for example, due to severe weather.

  6. Get your Miami University Student ID one week after registering for classes. Go to the Business Services Office on the campus to which you've been admitted.

  7. Check out the Learning Assistance websites for information on tutoring. Hamilton | Middletown.

  8. Miami's regional locations are fortunate to have great FREE parking. Complete your parking form and return it to Business Services. Download a form from Hamilton | Middletown.

  9. Miami Hamilton and Miami Middletown also have great Student Activities and student clubs or organizations, so it's easy to get involved. Check out Student Life at Miami University Regionals.

  10. If you are a student who feels you have a disability, make sure you connect with Disability Services  to get started on the right track! Hamilton | Middletown.
