Financial Aid & Scholarships
A college education is an important investment that offers lifetime returns, and there are a number of resources available to assist undergraduate and graduate students in meeting the costs of tuition, fees, books, and living expenses while attending school.
FAFSA – The First Step
The key first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be completed online, or printed out and mailed in. The FAFSA form is used to determine the cost of attendance (COA), the expected family contribution (EFC), and ultimately to determine a student’s financial need. Some scholarships at Miami and elsewhere require that students complete a FAFSA as part of the application and eligibility process.
Type of Financial Aid
Grants come mostly from federal and state sources and do not need to be repaid. Grant resources include federal Pell Grants and SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants). Miami has a grants resource page that includes information on federal and state grant programs.
Loans may be subsidized (government pays the interest while the student attends school and maintains eligibility) or unsubsidized. There are a number of options available to students, both undergraduate and graduate. Miami has an online resource that outlines types of loans and their eligibility requirements, and an online loan comparison research tool.
Some may be able to take advantage of a range of educational Veterans’ Benefits. View information for veterans attending Miami.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available at Miami and through external agencies, organizations, community groups, professional associations, and other resources. Scholarships may be awarded based on academic achievement, community involvement, financial need, or a combination of factors.
Miami has many scholarships available for students on the Oxford, Middletown, and Hamilton campuses available for first time, continuing, and returning former students.
Additional Resources
