Ten Week Course Schedule Coming to VOALC Spring 2010
A new ten-week daytime course schedule for undergraduates is coming to Miami’s Voice of America Learning Center in 2010. A select group of classes will meet two days a week (10 am to noon or 1 to 3 pm) beginning February 1 and ending in mid-April.
“This schedule option may be better for many students,” noted Tracy Davis, Student Services Coordinator at the Learning Center, “particularly people looking for daytime courses who have limited time availability in their personal schedules due to work or family responsibilities.”
A total of six courses will be available this coming semester in the new format, including art history, survey of US history, intermediate algebra, and the history of religion.
“The new schedule format works well in both the fall and spring semesters,” Davis continued. “In the fall classes will begin after Labor Day and end prior to Thanksgiving. There is an hour break for lunch for people taking two classes on the same day, and afternoon classes end at 3 pm.”
Registration for second semester classes at the VOA Learning Center and Miami’s Middletown and Hamilton regional campuses is currently underway. For admission and scheduling information contact the VOA Learning Center at 895-8862.
"Farmscapes" Exhibition Open
"Farmscapes,” an exhibition of the watercolor works of Miami alumnus Paul R. Sensbach, opened at the Miami University Voice of America Learning Center on November 15. The exhibition is being presented by the VOA Learning Center Community and Alumni Network.
“Farmscapes” is a retrospective exhibition of Sensbach’s watercolors, interpretations of rural southwestern Ohio that pays homage to the heritage of the family farm. Included in the exhibition are historic barns, scenes of farm life, and botanicals from his garden on the family farmstead.
Sensbach received his BFA from Miami in 1966, and went on to earn a master’s from Indiana University and a doctorate from Ohio State. His four-decade career in marketing, package design, and art direction began with Procter & Gamble in 1966. He worked with such national and international clients as Kraft, General Foods, and Sara Lee, led his own design firm in Cincinnati for many years, and retired from Fisher Design. He remains active in the field serving as a marketing consultant to a number of Alaskan companies promoting that state’s products.
“Farmscapes” includes original watercolors depicting farm and rural scenes, and a collection of watercolors of flowers from his “Grandmother’s Garden” collection. Originals from the exhibition, as well as prints, notecards, and calendars, will be available for sale during the exhibition, which will run through December. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will benefit the Voice of America Learning Center.
